A rough reading aid, not exact pronunciation. Hyphens separate syllables. Listen first, then try with hints hidden. “eu” is said with unrounded lips; “uh” only approximates ㅓ. Doubled consonants are tense, not extra syllables. Do not add a vowel after a final consonant.
Six phrases you can use today
Start with 실례합니다 to politely get someone’s attention. Then put the place before 어디예요? to ask where it is. This lesson helps you recognize short replies; longer real-life directions may need a map or another question.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Focus on the Korean audio as you learn.

실례합니다. 역이 어디예요?
Sound hintseel-ryeh-hahm-nee-dah. yuh-gee uh-dee-yeh-yoh
Excuse me. Where is the station?
Say it from the meaning
Say each phrase aloud before revealing it. This practice does not change your score.
Ask, listen, and confirm the next step
Knowing how to ask for a station does not automatically mean you can understand a long set of directions. Treat this as two skills: asking a clear question and catching the key information in the answer. Practice while standing somewhere safe, rather than reading from your phone as you cross a road.
Start with a destination you can identify
In 역이 어디예요?, 역 is a station and 어디예요 asks where it is. With an unfamiliar place name, showing a map or the written name can help. Do not assume every destination can be substituted without considering the particle; learn the whole example before extending the pattern.
Learn the direction words as actions
오른쪽 is the right side and 왼쪽 is the left side. Straight-ahead instructions often contain 쭉 or 똑바로. Point or trace a short route while practicing so the words connect to a direction. A street map can be rotated, so check the direction you are actually facing.
Ask for repetition when you need it
다시 말해 주세요 means “Please say it again.” Use it when you miss the response instead of pretending to understand. You can also show the map and confirm one step at a time. The aim of this lesson is a manageable exchange, not memorizing every possible instruction.
Read, understand, and change the example
역이 어디예요?
yuh-gee uh-dee-yeh-yoh?
Where is the station?
다시 말해 주세요.
dah-shee mahl-heh joo-seh-yoh
Please say it again.
Your turn
Ask where the station is. You miss the reply. Ask the person to say it again, then identify the left and right direction words from the explanation.
Say it first, then check the example and explanation
역이 어디예요? 다시 말해 주세요.
yuh-gee uh-dee-yeh-yoh? dah-shee mahl-heh joo-seh-yoh.
The first sentence identifies your destination. The second repairs a break in understanding, so the conversation can continue even when your listening is still developing.
Hide the examples and ask the two questions aloud. Then point left and right and say 왼쪽 and 오른쪽. Revisit the listening examples if you can recognize the text but cannot yet hear the difference.
Make yourself heard.
Listen once. Record yourself saying the phrase, then listen back.

Sound hintjee-hah-chuhl-ryuh-gee uh-dee-yeh-yoh
jihacheollyeogi eodiyeyo
